Beat Pain - Naturally
I was just reading my AARP Magazine and found these remedies for drug-free relief of common aches. I have not tried any of them, but they say that they really work.
Tension Headaches: Rub Riger Balm ointment into your temples. Supposedly works just as good as acetaminophen (drug in Tylenol) according to a study at Monarch University in Australia. The balms relaxes the muscles that trigger tension headaches.
Minimize Migraines: According to a review in "Clinical Neuroscience", up to half of all migraine patients have a magnesium deficiency that can lead to blood vessel constriction. A daily 400-milligram dose of the mineral can cut migraine frequency and severity in many suffers. (They say to check with your doctor first.)
Muscle Soreness: Ginger tea can relive muscle pain, says Jacob Teitellbaum. M.D. in his book "Pain Free 1-2-3". Compounds in the spice inhibit enzymes tied to pain and inflammation. Grate a 1-inch piece of fresh gingeroot, steep it for 3 to 5 minutes in a cup of boiling water, and then sip the strained broth.
Toothache: To temporarily dull tooth pain, rub an ice cub in the V-shaped area where the bones of your thumb and forefinger meet. In a study by a professor from McGill University in Canada, they found that rubbing the ice on the spot for 5 to 7 minutes eased toothaches in 60-90% of the people who tried it. The cold sends signals to the brain that block pain impulses from the mouth.
Canker Sores: Calm canker soures, place a wet tepid tea bag against the site for 3-5 minutes. Black tea contains compounds canned tannins which both relieve pain and coat the sore for speed healing.
If any of you try one of these remedies, let me know how it works? Anything is better than taking pills!!
