Ken & Mary's Wedding-June 2, 1985
Look at Ken's beard! He had worn this beard about 14 years. A few months after we got married, he obtained a job with the Marriott Hotel and had to shave his beard. I had never seen him without a beard and neither had his daughter, as she was only 12 years old when we got married. It was such a shock, I thought I had a stranger in my house for awhile!! He looked so very different!!
My brother, Lester, walked me down the aisle during the wedding ceremony.
All of our children were in the wedding. My daughter (Karen) played the piano. Karen's husband (Brian), Ken's sons (Bryan & Craig), and my son (Steve) were ushers. Ken's daughter (Tresha) was a candle lighter. My grandson (Justin) was the ring bearer and his little sister (Andrea) just ran around looking cute!
Here we are with my brothers and sisters: Mildred, Jimmy, Rowena, Boyd (with his wife, Pat), Lester, and Retha. (Betty was unable to attend the wedding.)
Some of our friends decorated by little blue Buick Skylark.

Aunt Hazel really did a fantastic job on your gown and others. Mother (Pearl) never did sew much and, when she did patch daddy's (Potts) shirts he would say she put a dime patch on a quarter hole. Oh, but she really knew how to patch cotton sacks with cooked paste and new cotton sack material! Our wedding was nothing like yours... Daddy said we could marry after cotton season so, We had 22.00 and, I was 15 and Ken was 20. We went to the court house and was expecting to pay the J.P. 5.00 and pay for our room with 7.50 at Lakeview Motel then, have enough left to get us a barbque sand and R.C.
Well, Ken forgot to get change for the 20.00 bill and when he asked the J.P. how much he owed, the answer was 5.00 or what ever. Ken gave him the 20.00 bill and was expecting 15.00 back. Instead he got a good slap on the back and we were told that he hoped we had a long life together ha. So, we went to Ken's mothers house...I sat and twittled my thumbs and Ken went back to the cotton field and pulled more cotton to make up the difference in money. Sorry this is so long but it did happen and, brought back memories. I really love your pictures and writing...your cousin Gladys

My goodness, Gladys! Your wedding day sounded tough. Ken and I both had very good jobs and paid for the wedding ourselves and we were much older. Ken was married before in Las Vegas before a J.P. and he wanted a nice wedding this time. I had a beautiful wedding the first time, so it really didn't matter to me. I did tell him that I would love to have a diamond in my ring. I had never had a diamond ring before. He was a plumber and did plumbing work for a jeweler in exchange for my rings. They were designed especially for me and there is not another set of rings like them in the world. I was so proud of him for doing this and cherish my wedding rings.
Thank you for your comments on my blogs. I always enjoy hearing from you.
